Chatter is a Salesforce real-time collaboration application that allows users to work together, talk to each other, and share information. You can follow people, establish networks and share files in real-time. Chatter connects, engages, and motivates users to work efficiently across the organization, regardless of role or location. You can use Chatter in any browser and on any device. The mobile app offers a powerful interface for collaboration anywhere. Chatter lets users collaborate on sales opportunities, service cases, campaigns, and projects with embedded apps and custom actions.

Salesforce Chatter is available in the Lightning Experience and in Classic, but not in all Classic orgs. All standard Salesforce licenses allow for free chatter access to everyone in the org. There are also Chatter specific licenses that give users access to a more robust set of features.

Here’s how you can post to Chatter. In this example, we’ll post to Chatter in the Opportunity object:

  1. Within the Opportunity object, go to the Chatter tab.
  2. Select Poll, Post, or Question.
  3. Enter the content you want to post. If you’re posting to chatter using the Post option, you can mention users using @ and attach records with /.
  4. Select Share to post.
