The pandemic has accelerated the need for businesses to embark on their digital transformation and find new ways to leverage technology to drive their business forward. With the rapid shift and need for quick innovation, we’re now seeing more and more IT teams become overwhelmed with the day-to-day tasks, and non-technical employees are being tasked with creating digital experiences and apps using low-code tools.

Could the availability of low-code tools provide us with the ability to conquer the new digital transformation upon us? Is the use of low code tools the new direction IT leaders will follow in order to meet the increasingly overwhelming demands on their IT teams? 83% of IT leaders seem to think so, they’re banking on the use of low-code tools to drive their businesses forward.

What is Low Code?

Low code is not just about making it easier and faster for businesses to create apps and develop new solutions, it’s about developing solutions that can really accelerate growth for a business. Low code is as it sounds, minimal code and a visual way to create and build apps. You can build automation and streamline processes by breaking down silos and breaking open those bottlenecks of overloaded IT tickets, allowing you to build more at scale. It’s about creating a partnership between developers and non-developers who can work together to build better experiences, faster.

“By 2024, low-code application development will be responsible for more than 65% of application development activity.”
-Gartner

The benefits of Low Code

Agility: Using pre-built modules in a visual environment cuts down the time it takes to build and create apps. With faster turnaround time it really allows businesses to become more agile and adapt to ever-changing market conditions.
Cost: Traditional development requires skilled developers, and hiring any sort of talented professionals can be costly. Using low code solutions requires less engineering, therefore, lowering the cost of development.
Cross-platform agility: Many of these platforms are already compatible with other platforms. They allow non-programmers to develop applications with access to third-party applications with much less effort.

Low Code in the Future

As the demand on the IT teams continues to rise, 83% of IT leaders plan to increase their use of low-code app development tools. A huge trend for 2021 is the ability for non-IT creators and developers to come together and create even better experiences even faster than before.

In a recent survey from IT leaders:
91% believe such an approach would bridge business requirements with technical execution
89% believe it would allow IT staff to focus on more complex initiatives
82% believe it would reduce IT’s project backlog.

Salesforce and Low Code

Salesforce is continuing to innovate in the area of low code tools. In 2020 Salesforce released the low code features dynamic forms and dynamic actions. They’re continuing on this low code journey and have recently laid out a Salesforce low code roadmap of tools they’ll be adding to the platform in order to make it even easier for development without the costly spend on IT.
